Andy Lloyd (Acting Chair) 
Chief Development Officer - Uranium, Rio Tinto Ltd, Australia

Andy Lloyd, B. Nat. Res. (Hons), Dip Bus Ad, MBA, FAICD, holds the position of Chief Development officer-Uranium at Rio Tinto in Melbourne, and is accountable for Rio Tinto’s global uranium business development.

Andy holds an Honours degree in Natural Resource Management and Master of Business Administration, and has over 20 years experience in the resources industry. He has held a number of positions with the Rio Tinto group in Papua New Guinea, Australia, and the UK within the copper, aluminium and energy businesses. He was a Director of Energy Resources of Australia Ltd, which operates the Ranger uranium mine in Kakadu National Park from 2003 until 2006, and of Rossing Uranium Ltd in Namibia from 1998 until 2002.

Andy has played a leading role in the development of Rio Tinto’s response to climate change, and the development of low emission coal technologies.  He is currently the Chairman of IEA Environmental Projects Pty Ltd, the operating agent for the IEA Greenhouse Gas Program, the IEA Clean Coal Centre in the UK, and a Director of Rossing Uranium Ltd in Namibia. Andy is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has previously served on the boards of numerous companies including Energy Resources of Australia listed on the ASX.  Andy represents Australia at the APEC Energy Business Network, and is a director of the Energy Alliance of Australia, which provides policy advice on energy matters to the Australian Government, and support to the APEC Energy Business Network. 

Andy is married with three children.  He is a keen skier and tennis player.


BRAY_Michael

Michael Bray
Chairman, Energy & Natural Resources, KPMG, Australia

B.Com (First Class Honours) University of Melbourne

Michael Bray has 30 years auditing and advisory experience, principally in the energy and natural resources industries.  He has substantial experience working with senior management, boards and audit committees. 

Michael is Chairman of KPMG’s Australian Energy & Natural Resources Group and was Global Executive Partner of KPMG’s Global Energy & Natural Resources Practice between 2000 and 2005.  Michael is also a director of The Energy Alliance of Australia (EAA). 

Michael is a foundation member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia’s Broad Based Business Reporting Advisory Panel and Leader of KPMG Australia’s Better Business Reporting Group (BBRG).  He has been working with, among others, The Society for Knowledge Economics in establishing the Australian Business Reporting Leaders Forum, which is building awareness of the importance of better business reporting in Australia and working with the International Integrated Reporting Committee.

Jeff Ferdinands

Jeff Ferdinands has been with IBM 24 years and has held many Senior Management roles during his career.

Currently the General Manager, Communications Sector ,Australia and New Zealand  which is responsible for  clients in three industries:  telecommunications, media and entertainment and energy and utilities.  

A member of IBM's Australia/New Zealand Leadership Team as well as serving on the Board of the Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering at Sydney University.

Stuart Fuller
Chief Executive Partner-Elect, Mallesons Stephen Jaques 

Based in Sydney, Stuart joined Mallesons in 1990 and made Partner in 1997.  He became Managing Partner in 2006 and will officially commence as Chief Executive Partner on 1 January 2012.

Since taking on the role of Managing Partner, Stuart has led a number of client and practice initiatives.  In particular, he has pioneered the establishment of the Mallesons national Energy, Resources and Projects sector group and leads the firm's initiatives in financial market regulation.

Prior to his appointment as Managing Partner, Stuart was the practice team leader of the Banking and Finance practice team and a specialist in securitisation and structured finance, where he acted for issuers, originators and arrangers of programmes in the Australian, European and US bond and commercial paper markets.

In addition to his current role, he is the Chairman of the Australian Securitisation Forum.

Mark Johnson AO

Mark is Chairman of the Australian Financial Centre Task Force, an Australian Government initiative directed towards ensuring efficiency and competitiveness in the financial services sector. He is Chairman of Guinness Peat Group plc and a Director of Westfield Group and has been one of the Prime Minister’s three Australian representatives on the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) since 2002.

 

He has recently retired as Chairman of AGL Energy, and is currently Chairman of Alinta Energy.

 

Mark has spent more than forty years in banking and corporate finance, and retired as Deputy Chairman

of Macquarie Bank in 2007 and as Chairman of Macquarie Infrastructure Group early in 2010.  He has recently joined Gresham as a Senior Advisor.

 

Current affiliations include membership of the ASIC External Advisory Panel and the Chairman’s Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  He was Chairman of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute from 2005 to 2008, and Chairman of ABAC and the APEC Business Summit in Sydney in 2007.

 

He is Chairman of the US Study Centre Foundation of Sydney University, member of the Board of Governors of the Institute for International Trade at the University of Adelaide, member of the Advisory Council of SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong, and member of the Advisory Board of the APEC Study Centre at RMIT University.

 

He was awarded the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010. He is a Commander of the Order of the Crown (Tonga) and a Life Governor of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Star Energy Pte Ltd, Indonesia

Dr Bret Mattes is the CEO AND Managing Director of Star Energy Pty Ltd (an oil and gas field and pipeline operator, and geothermal electricity producer). Chairman of WA Chemistry Centre and Chairman of Ecocarbon Inc (a carbon management and emissions market simulation and training enterprise). He has his own energy advisory service based in Perth (Matma Pty Ltd), is a Director of APGAS and Energy Alliance of Australia.

He was with BHP Billiton for 17 years and was at times BHP Petroleum’s Marketing Director, a Director NWS Australian LNG and North West Shelf Gas marketing companies, VP of NWS Australia LNG with responsibility for China, M&A team leader for the collective North West Shelf joint venture, and eventually the Vice President Gas and Power for BHP Billiton (until May 2007).

Chairman of APGAS Limited and on the Steering Committee for the APGAS Forums 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Darren Pace

Darren Pace is a professional engineer with three years operational oil and gas experience.  He has a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) with Honours 1st Class, and a Bachelor of Business (Business Management) with Distinction from RMIT University.

He is currently employed as a Gas Trader within Origin Energy's Energy Risk Management team.

Darren is the representative on the Board for the Energy Alliance Future Energy Leaders members.

Robert Pritchard
Managing Director, ResourcesLaw International, Australia

In addition to serving as Executive Director of the Energy Alliance, Robert Pritchard is Managing Director of ResourcesLaw International, a Sydney-based consultancy in the energy and natural resources industries. He specialises in international energy policy and strategy. He was the founding Chairman of the Section on Energy and Resources Law of the International Bar Association and served for nine years on the Finance Committee of the World Energy Council.

Robert is the editor of the book "Economic Development, Foreign Investment and the Law", published by the International Bar Association in 1996 and is the author of many other publications in the field of energy and natural resources.

Robert is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the CSIRO Energy Transformed Research Flagship.

Dr Ziggy Switkowski is Chancellor, RMIT University.

He is a non-executive director of listed companies Suncorp, Tabcorp, Oil Search and Lynas, and Chairman of Opera Australia.

He is the former chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization, and a former chief executive officer of Telstra, Optus and Kodak (Australia).

He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Alex Wonhas

Alex leads CSIRO’s Energy Transformed National Research Flagship, which aims to identify pathways and technologies for a prosperous, lower carbon future.

He took up the role as Energy Transformed Flagship Director in August 2009, bringing with him significant strategic experience in the resources and energy sectors.

Alex joined CSIRO directly from McKinsey & Company. During his seven years with the global management consulting firm, Dr Wonhas delivered a large number of high impact strategy projects to senior executives and boards of leading international companies, predominantly in the resource and energy sector.

He has been awarded a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Master of Science with Honours from the Technical University of Munich, Germany.

He also has a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
